New Year's Resolutions

Quitter's Day, it's a thing...

January 1, 2025

Happy New Year! Happy New You! (so many of us hope for)

Out of curiousity I wondered for how long have people been commiting to resolutions? I was surprised to see that it traces back to ancient Babylonian Days (almost 4,000 years ago).

Here are 6 of the most common New Years Resolutions:

save money

eat healthier

excersise more

lose weight

spend more time with family/ friends

Knowing this human behavior many cash in on getting you all excited however I was alarmed to learn that 88% of people fail before the end of January.

Did you know that the second Friday in January is referred to as Quitter's Day? The day that many people abandon their set resolutions. This year, Quitters day falls on Friday, January 10th. Will your resolutions out last the statistics?

Why do you think this is? Some say, lack of motivation, discipline, laziness.

I say it's a lack of self belief.

Change is difficult. Most people make resolutions with the best of intentions but soon find it takes work and commitment. A commitment to ourselves, which most do not keep on a daily basis.

What do I mean? Let's say you wake up in the morning and tell yourself, I am going to stop at the store and pick up some flowers. Midday you realize just how quickly the morning passed by and ALL things you still need to do. Your priorties. And reason with yourself, "you'll do it tomorrow".

Or you tell yourself that you will set time aside day to read a chapter in that book you love. The day passes by, its evening you just need time to relax, but you still need a shower and to get ready for bed. You've that early morning meeting to get prepared for.

What I mean is, You are NOT even on YOUR own Priority list!

Why? Because all the other things need to be done first - then.... you can do the things you want.

This causes one to give up on themselves, as well as, their dreams.

Why bother? Nothing works out for me anyways.

It doesn't because you don't allow it to. You don't even make time for them.

Recall all the times you tried before and failed! Why is this? It's because you don't believe in yourself. You don't follow thru with anything you tell yourself you are going to do.

As easy as one chooses the new, they often give up on their dreams and new years resolutions.

They are used to not seeing things thru so why would this time be different?!

We need to believe in and honor our word. Especially regarding the things we tell ourselves. The more we do so, the more confident we will become and the more "awe"some stuff comes into our lives.

You desire the changes, you are worthy of the changes but for some reason something stops you. it's you! You are in your own way!

You choose to satisfy your immediate desire to eat the cake, lounge instead of going to the gym and talk yourself out of it cause at the end of the day it's what you do right? you cannot commit.

You can you do it for others. You put them first you are obedient to their asks and wants of you

why? Sometimes for approval, validation and most often for LOVE.

What if you no longer sought approval, validation and love in others and chose to look to yourself for all of those things.

Seriously, go find a mirror and look into your eyes. Say, I love you right where you are, as you are. And truly notice how "awe"some you are. The very creation of you and all your wonder.

It's amazing what happens when you do so. When you no longer need to hide yourself from yourself. When you start honoring your word and do all the things you want to do. Setting goals and seeing them thru.

It all starts with believing in YOU. You can resolve to focus on yourself and your needs. And you can do this each and everyday. Your life will forever change and you will not become a statistic and a part of "quitter's day!"

You got this! I believe in you and you are WORTH it. All the time, effort and care you give to yourself will pay off. I promise.
